Walter Gropius, the renowned architect who founded the German movement known as Bauhaus, came to Massachusetts in 1937. The modest home he built the next year in Lincoln, Massachusetts near Boston combined New England details with Bauhaus ideas. When Walter Gropius, founder of the German movement known as Bauhaus, came to the United States he built a modest home that combined Bauhaus ideas with New England details. He used traditional New England materials like wood, brick, and fieldstone. He also used industrial materials like chrome and glass.
